Seats still are available for the free composting and waste reduction workshop scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Mid-Columbia Libraries' conference room at the 1620 S. Union St. branch in Kennewick.

Participants will receive a free backyard composting bin and book.

The program includes information on recycling, household hazardous waste disposal and outdoor burning. Basic composting information, the do's and don'ts involved and using the finished product also will be covered. This program will help you reduce the amount of garbage you generate, put your house and garden organics to good use and make your own soil conditioner/fertilizer.

To register, call 735-3551.

The program is sponsored by the solid waste divisions of Benton and Franklin counties, Richland, Kennewick, Pasco, the Department of Ecology and the Benton Clean Air Authority.
