Southridge volleyball holds off Kennewick 3-1

Junior Leilani Moody dished out 37 assists as Southridge held off a feisty Kennewick squad for a Mid-Columbia Conference home victory Tuesday.

Moody was pressed into action in place of injured setter Kylie Fraga, who sprained her ankle during warmups of a tournament match in La Grande on Saturday.

“Leilani came in and did a good job,” Suns coach John Lengphounpraseut said, “but our offense kind of missed its quickness.”

Rylee Russell added 19 digs and three aces for Southridge, while Julisa Gonzalez’s 20 digs and nine kills led Kennewick.

Kamiakin 3, Hanford 0: Andrea Stapleton had nine kills and five blocks as the host Braves swept aside the Falcons in a Mid-Columbia Conference match.

Kelly Wahl’s nine kills and two aces led the Falcons.

Chiawana 3, Pasco 0: Chantel Hill recorded 14 kills, six aces and 11 digs, and Cara Gilmore put up seven blocks as the Riverhawks rolled to an MCC sweep over the visiting Bulldogs.

Caitlin Linke led Pasco with seven kills.

Grandview 3, Wapato 0: The Greyhounds opened CWAC play with a sweep of the Wolves, as Hannah Pond had a whopping 13 aces.

Prosser 3, Toppenish 2: The Mustangs took the first two sets easily, let the host Wildcats take sets 3 and 4, and then pulled out the final set for the home win.

“We came out strong, then let up. Our energy went down, and we had lots of errors (in sets 3 and 4),” Prosser coach Wendy Meindorf said. “At the end, we got our energy back and started playing aggressively.”

River View 3, Wahluke 2: Sadie Vasquez had 30 assists as the Panthers rallied from a two-set hole for an SCAC East road victory.

Columbia (Burbank) 3, Warden 1: Allycia Gonzales had seven kills, nine digs and three blocks, but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars dropped an SCAC East road match.

Set scores: 25-16, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19. Warden—Shania Kissler 6 kills, 20 digs; Allycia Gonzales 7 kills, 9 digs, 3 blocks; Laurissa Kissler 15 assists.

Connell 3, Kiona-Benton 0: Melody Davidson led all hitters with 10 kills, and Courtney Colclasure collected 30 assists in the Eagles’ SCAC East home sweep of the Bears.

Dayton 3, DeSales 0: Madison Mings had 13 kills, six blocks, 12 digs and eight service points to lead the Bulldogs to a Southeast 2B victory.

Tri-Cities Prep 3, WWVA 2: Katie Casazza and Mary Hoppes combined for 27 kills, and Danica Whitsett chipped in 33 assists to lift the Jaguars to a Southeast 2B win over Walla Walla Valley Academy.
