Johnson lifts Kamiakin to 2-0 girls soccer win over Hanford

By the Tri-City HeraldOctober 1, 2013

Mary Johnson may not start for the Kamiakin girls soccer team.

But the senior midfielder sure knows how to come through in a big game.

Johnson came off the bench to score both Braves goals in a 2-0 win over Hanford in Richland, keeping Kamiakin (9-0, 7-0) in sole possession of first place in the Mid-Columbia Conference.

“(Johnson is) a good little player. She’s not starting, but she’s a great player off the bench. They were beautiful goals, too. Well placed. She had defenders on her, but she juked around them and put them in the net,” Braves coach Chris Erikson said. “It’s nice to get that off our back. They’re big, and we’re not. It was such a physical game.” Erin Leseberg made seven saves for Kamiakin to earn her third shutout of the year.
