GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

— An inmate at the Grant County jail had surgery at Harborview Medical Center Tuesday after officials say she fell from a balcony while possibly trying to commit suicide.

Surveillance video shows Tina Mandelas, 47, deliberately throwing herself from the balcony Monday as another inmate tried to stop her from hanging herself, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Mandelas reportedly tied a jail jumpsuit to the balcony before she fell about 20 feet onto a concrete floor.

The Moses Lake woman was taken to Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata before being flown to Harborview in Seattle, the sheriff’s office said. Her condition was not immediately available.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.
