Awards and Achievements for Sept. 29

— The following Whitworth University students have been named to the Laureate Society for spring semester at the Spokane school. The students qualified for the academic honors society by maintaining a grade-point average of at least 3.75 during the semester.

Kennewick — Katylyn DeVries, Megan Hinzdel, Bradley Hopp, Caylee Lamm, Catherine Lynch, Rachel Osgood, Sarah Sauter, Caitlin Taylor, Lauren Dickey, Brodrick Hirai, Brittany Hoppe, Katherine Lanouette, Jamie Lyons, Connor Otheim, Sarah Savino, Jeremy TeGrotenhuis.

Othello — Kayla Anderson, Katelyn Andrews.

— Isabel Velasquez, a Washington State University Tri-Cities student, received the 2013 Dura-Shine Clean Sergio Martinez Memorial Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship was awarded for the first time this year to honor Dura-Shine Clean co-founder and CEO Carlos Martinez’s brother, who died in 1990.

— Hanford High School’s cheerleaders received several honors at camps they attended this summer.

The squad earned the Camp Champions Award at the Universal Cheerleaders Association Summer Camp in Bellevue. All-Americans included Riley Cortese, Natalie Christensen, Marina Kassianova, Gia Scovazzo and Tenley Weil.

Hanford High cheerleaders won the Camp Champions for Game Time Award at the National Cheerleaders Association Summer Camp in Ellensburg. All-Americans were Kiera Lucas, Lucy Wang, Michelle Wang, Gia Scovazzo, Marina Kassianova and Rylan Cartwright. Kassianova also received the Camp Leadership Award.

— Among the 727 candidates who passed the Washington State Bar Examination in July were: Nicholas Andrew Ashjian, Scott Gardner Boyce, Dashiell Thomas Miller, Deric John Orr and Brandon Lloyd Pang, all of Kennewick; Daniel Ophardt, Eamonn Patrick Sullivan Roach and Jacinta Lorena Rodriguez, all of Pasco; and Preston Uriah McCollam, Timothy Kendall Reeve and Brett Michael Spooner, all of Richland.
