St. Juan Diego Mission plans open house events

By the Herald staffSeptember 27, 2013

BASIN CITY -- St. Juan Diego Mission in Basin City will hold an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with presentations from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. and a reception to follow.

The Catholic mission began in the 1980s as an outreach to Hispanic migrant workers who were unable to attend regular services on the weekend. It began with a trailer in Basin City. In the 1990s it was able to acquire a small building in town, but even that could not hold everyone.

A couple of years ago, a local Assembly of God community wanted to sell its building and reached an agreement with the mission to lease with the intent of buying. Both communities continue to share the building.

For more information, call the Rev. Kevin D. Oiland at 509-496-3608.
