Update: Kennewick fire investigated as arson, suspect arrested

September 27, 2013

— A 31-year-old man is in custody after allegedly lighting fire to a Kennewick apartment he shared with another man.

Jason D. Hill was arrested following the early Friday morning fire. He was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of reckless burning.

The Kennewick Fire Department and police responded at 2 a.m. to 530 N. Edison St., unit F107 and arrived to find the apartment partially engulfed in flames, according to Kennewick police.

Though police officials first reported the apartment was unoccupied, Hill and his roommate were in the apartment when the fire started. Both men were able to escape without injuries.

Firefighters were able to quickly douse the flames to keep it from spreading to other apartments, police said.
