Volleyball: Richland tops Kennewick in 4

Hailey Turner had 18 kills and nine digs, and the Richland Bombers turned things around after dropping the first game for a 20-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-18 win over the Kennewick Lions in Mid-Columbia volleyball on Thursday at the Lions Den.

Morgan Wilder had 15 kills for Kennewick, which jumped on the Bombers in the first game.

“We served well and kept our heads after losing Game 1,” Richland coach Bob Raidl said. “It is our challenge to start strong and stay focused throughout the match.”

Kamiakin 3, Walla Walla 0: Kaile Akker had seven kills and seven stuff-blocks to lead the Braves’ strong defense at the neet in a Mid-Columbia Conference sweep on the road.

“That was very, very good,” Braves coach Mary Opitz said. “We have not blocked that well all season. They were on it really well.”

Pasco freshman setter Victoria Estes has seven assists in the third game, while Catelyn Linke finished with 10 kills.

Chiawana 3, Hanford 0: Shantelle Hill had 14 kills and eight digs, and Cara Gillmore came up with eight big blocks to lead the Riverhawks to the MCC road sweep.

“She was a machine tonight at the net,” Chiawana coach Jim Steach said of Gillmore. “That led to some of Hanford’s hitting negative on the night.”

Bailee Drussel and Elise Simunds each had eight digs for Hanford, with Drussel also doling out 11 assists.
