— A Level 3 registered sex offender has been arrested after a 90-year-old Kennewick woman reported disturbing telephone calls.

The woman said she had received numerous phone calls from a man she did not know who made sexual comments.

Search warrants served on Charter Communications and Sprint led investigators to 2114 S. Rainier St. in Kennewick, according to Kennewick police records.

Michael Chafin, 52, a Level 3 registered sex offender, admitted to making the phone calls, according to Kennewick police.

He was booked into Benton County jail on suspicion of telephone harassment.

Level 3 sex offenders are considered highly like to reoffend and must register their address with law enforcement.

Chafin was convicted of raping two preteen girls in 1997. He had been released from prison by spring 2006.
