A 21-year-old was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of trafficking stolen property after being was busted in a sting operation with a pilfered trumpet, Kennewick police reported.
Alex D. Tanner was booked into the Benton County jail. Police didn't give Tanner's city of residence.
A 17-year-old girl who was with Tanner was released pending felony charges, a police news release said.
The trumpet and a case allegedly were stolen from an unlocked vehicle between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
The victim, who wasn't named, reported the theft to police.
He later followed up, saying the trumpet was being advertised on Craigslist, police said.
"Kennewick Police Department's Criminal Apprehension Team set up a sting to catch the suspect," with detectives posing as buyers during a meet-up in the parking lot of a Starbucks, police said.
Tanner and the girl arrived at the coffee shop about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday and met with two undercover detectives, police said.
Tanner showed the stolen trumpet, police said.
