LEAVENWORTH -- A ceremony is planned Oct. 7 in Leavenworth to mark the 14th anniversary of the Pasco shooting death of a Washington State Patrol trooper.
Officials plan to dedicate a bench built in memory of Trooper Jim Saunders at 10 a.m. across from Lions Park in Leavenworth, according to a release from the state patrol.
The bench was built in 2009 by craftsman Ben Bark and placed in Leavenworth, where Saunders grew up. He was a graduate of Cascade High School.
Saunders was killed in the line of duty Oct. 7, 1999, when he was shot during a traffic stop in Pasco.
The public is invited to hear Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste speak. Mayor Cheri Farivar will make the dedication.
