Four teens injured in rollover near Connell

September 22, 2013

— Four teens were injured after a one-car rollover on Highway 260 about 14 miles east of Connell on Sunday.

Erika Hernandez, 19, of Sunnyside, was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry eastbound on Highway 260 about 11:49 a.m. when she apparently lost control, overcorrected and then rolled onto the shoulder, according to Washington State Patrol.

Hernandez and her passengers, Celia Diaz, 18, of Mabton, Adriana Ayala, 19, of Sunnyside, and Mariela Santos, 19, of Everett, were all injured and transported to Richland’s Kadlec Regional Medical Center, according to WSP. All four were wearing seat belts.

Hernandez was still at Kadlec Sunday evening in satisfactory condition. Santos was treated and released. There was no record of the other two patients as of about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

The incident allegedly was caused by speed, according to WSP. Charges are pending.
