Lorna and Jerry Mikkelsen

Lorna and Jerry Mikkelsen of Kennewick celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise on Holland America to the Inside Passage of Alaska.

They both graduated from Columbia High School and Brigham Young University. The day after Lorna's graduation, they were married on June 1, 1963, in the Latter-day Saint Temple in Manti, Utah.

Jerry entered a training program for General Electric which moved them to six GE plants in the eastern part of the nation. For 25 years, Jerry served as a purchasing agent and manager for General Electric. He also was a purchasing agent for Westinghouse.

Lorna graduated from college with a business degree. She taught at Pasco High School and Springville High School. When her children were older, she returned to teaching at Carlsbad High School in New Mexico as a marketing and DECA adviser. She now serves as a substitute teacher. Lorna loves to cook and sew.

Lorna and Jerry served on a mission from 2002-04 for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Durban, South Africa. They are now happily retired.

They have six children: Lisa, Heidi, Jessica, Lorraine, Reed and Spencer; and 11 grandchildren.
