8-year-old Walla Walla girl flown to hospital after motorcycle crash

— An 8-year-old Walla Walla girl was flown to a Spokane hospital Wednesday after she was thrown off a motorcycle, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The girl was taken to Providence St. Mary’s Medical Center in Walla Walla before being flown to Spokane, state patrol said. Her condition was not immediately available.

The driver of the motorcycle, Charlie M. Calkins, 34, was on Highway 12 near Walla Walla around 4:35 p.m. when he passed a convoy of farm vehicles, state patrol said. Calkins reportedly pulled behind a pickup truck leading the group and crashed into the rear of the truck.

Both the girl and Calkins were thrown off the motorcycle, state patrol said. The pair was wearing helmets.

Calkins, of Walla Walla, was taken to St. Mary’s. His condition was not immediately available.

The driver of the truck, Kevin K. Bascom, 48, of Walla Walla, was not injured.
