Letter: Save Flat Top Park

September 18, 2013

I am responding to a Sept. 9 article, "W. Richland not planning major changes to Flat Top." Mayor Donna Noski, mayoral candidate Brent Gerry and others on the city council say no major changes are planned, only enhancements to the park are to be made.

Then please explain why the city spent thousands of dollars of our money to an engineering firm for concept drawings that are not intended for use? The first phase of the so-called enhancing for the park must be the hardware store the city is forcing on the neighborhood directly across the street -- right?

Commercialization of Flat Top Park is very real. Would the city please show us the concept drawings that don't include retail stores and office buildings? The citizens of West Richland don't want buildings of any kind on any and all of Flat Top Park lands, including the parking lot!
