Wildfire near Benton City burns around 300 acres (with video)

Fire crews battle and monitor a fire believed to have burned over 100 acres Wednesday in Webber Canyon near Benton City, fire that officials are calling suspicious started near the top of Webber Canyon and spread down toward Webber Canyon Road. No building were lost and no one was injured.

A brush fire that started south of Benton City late Wednesday afternoon burned around 300 acres by nightfall, according to Benton County Emergency Services.

No homes were threatened and no injuries were reported.

The fire started at 4:20 p.m. and burned in the hills between North McBee Road and Webber Canyon Road, said. A.J. Hill, with emergency services. The fire was 75 percent contained by Wednesday night.

Crews are expected to stay overnight to watch the fire.

Around 50 firefighters from Benton Fire District’s 1-5, Kennewick, Richland and Hanford all helped control the blaze, Hill said. There are around 20 trucks on scene.

Crews expect low winds throughout Wednesday night.
