Off-duty detective helps put out fire, arson investigation ongoing

— A fire Sunday afternoon in the backyard of a Kennewick home is being investigated as an arson, according to police.

An off-duty Kennewick police detective saw the fire at 1500 W. 40th Pl. around 3:30 p.m., Officer Craig Hanson said. The fire was reportedly burning dried brush and was threatening nearby homes.

The detective was able to contain the fire with a hose until the Kennewick Fire Department arrived and put it out. No injuries were reported.
