Awards and Achievements for Sept. 15, 2013

- Charlotte McCary of Kennewick has been named area governor for Toastmasters International. In this position, McCary will lead four local Toastmasters clubs. She will focus on serving the needs of club members. Toastmasters is a nonprofit organization that focuses on communication and leadership.

- Spencer Wheeler of Richland recently was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Washington State University. He received the Charles W. Harrison Engineering Scholarship, which is given to students who display academic excellence in math and science and are interested in engineering. He is the son of Kelly Wheeler of Richland and Jim Wheeler of Maple Valley.

- The following students from Richland were awarded degrees from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., for the spring semester: Tsung-Chi Chen earned a doctor of philosophy degree from the graduate school; Eric Simiele earned a bachelor of science degree from the College of Health & Human Sciences.

- Patrick Hart of West Richland won best in show at the annual Crescent Beach Concours d'Elegance, an invitational classic car show in Vancouver, B.C., on Aug. 31. Hart's winning entry was a 1936 white convertible Cord 810 Phaeton.
