Spokane scored three unanswered goals in the final 25 minutes to beat the Tri-City Americans 4-1 in a preseason game at Toyota Center on Saturday.

“We didn’t execute well at all tonight,” said Americans coach Jim Hiller, whose team was 2-6-0-0 in the preseason. “We didn’t execute offensively the entire game.”

Which was evident by Tri-City’s 1-for-11 performance on the power play. The Americans outshot the Chiefs 38-29, but Spokane goalie Garret Hughson stopped all but one.

Spokane’s Blair Oneschuck opened the scoring at 1:13 of the second period, only to see the Americans answer 4 minutes later with a power-play goal by defenseman Mitch Topping.

From there, the Chiefs notched goals by Matt Sozanski, Jason Fram and Liam Stewart. Troy Trombley played the entire game in net, finishing with 25 saves.

The only bright spot for the Americans was their penalty kill, which killed off all five Spokane power plays.

The teams combined for 132 penalty minutes.
