Soccer: CBC women draw with Shoreline

September 11, 2013

The Columbia Basin College women’s soccer team opened NWAACC play with a 1-1 draw Wednesday at Shoreline Community College, located near Seattle.

Kellie Ross scored on a penalty kick in the 39th minute and the Hawks (0-0-1, 2-0-1) nearly made the goal stand up.

But Shoreline (0-0-1, 2-1-1) tied it in the 79th minute on a goal by Montana Powell.

“We left at 6 a.m., so it was a good result,” coach Matt Mills said. “Any time we can get a tie, this is a lot better than a loss.”

Dakota Wickard made 14 saves in goal for CBC, which hosts Edmonds at noon Saturday.

Shoreline outshot CBC 15-9, but failed to capitalize.

Scoring—1, CBC, Kellie Ross (PK), 39:00; 2, Shoreline, Montana Powell (A. Snyder), 79:00. Shots—CBC 9, Shoreline 15. Saves—CBC, Dakota Wickard, 14; Shoreline, M. Schuetze, 9
