An Irrigon man was hurt after possibly shooting himself accidentally in the leg, police said.

Venancio Carrillo, 67, reportedly picked up a handgun after a member of his household got into a verbal altercation Monday night with a man in a vehicle in front of their house in the 200 block of South First Street, Morrow County Undersheriff Steven L. Myren said in a news release.

He was trying to place a round in the chamber when the gun fired, sending a bullet into his leg.

There were also indications that another person fired the gun, Myren said.

He was taken by ambulance to Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston, Myren said.

Oregon State Police, and the Boardman and Umatilla police departments responded to the shooting along with the Morrow County Sheriff's Office, Myren said.

Police wouldn't release any other information about the incident.
