American Legion state commander Jim Davidson is asking fellow Legionnaires and the public to take part in a moment of silence on Wednesday to pay tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
People can have the moment of silence at any time between 6:45 and 8:45 a.m., Davidson said. He encourages schools and businesses to take part.
"Even in our busy lives, this is an important yet simple thing to do in their memory," he said in a statement.
A moment of silence traditionally lasts a minute, Davidson said.
Gov. Jay Inslee has ordered flags to fly at half staff all day Wednesday.
