Texting driver crashes into Richland woman's parked car, police say

Tri-City HeraldSeptember 9, 2013

— A woman was injured Monday after her truck was hit by a man who reportedly was texting and driving, the Washington State Patrol said.

Scott N. Dragoo, 53, of Yakima, drove a 2011 Chevrolet pickup into a 2007 International flatbed truck driven by Tammy L. Gish, 50, of Richland, at 1:49 p.m. on Interstate 82 a mile west of Benton City, the state patrol said.

Gish was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, where she was listed in satisfactory condition Monday evening. Dragoo was not injured, the state patrol said.

Dragoo, who was cited for texting while driving, did not see Gish’s truck, even though Gish had parked with her flashing caution lights on, the state patrol said.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, the state patrol said.
