Wreck, fire at Conoco gas station briefly closes Stevens Drive in Richland

September 7, 2013

A 17-year-old boy hit a gas pump at a Conoco gas station on the 2200 block of Stevens Drive in Richland late Saturday morning, leading to a fire and the brief closure of part of the roadway, Richland police reported.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The teen was pulling out of the gas station in a Ford Bronco, sped up too quickly and lost control, said Richland police Cpl. Hyrum Stohel. The Bronco reportedly spun around, hit a curb and retaining wall and struck a gas pump, leading to a fire.

The incident happened about 11 a.m. Stohel said police shut down part of Stevens for about a half hour while firefighters put out the blaze.

The teen likely will receive a speed-related citation, Stohel said.
