Kamiakin, Richland, TC Prep in preseason XC poll

September 4, 2013

The Washington prep cross country preseason poll is out, and it is good news for several local squads.

The Kamiakin girls are ranked second in the 3A poll behind defending champion Glacier Peak of Snohomish, while the boys are ranked third behind seven-time champion North Central of Spokane and No. 2 Nathan Hale of Seattle.

The Braves placed second at state in both boys and girls races last season, and the Kamiakin boys (coming off a seventh-place finish at Nike Cross Nationals) are ranked sixth in the Northwest, 14th in the nation by RunnerSpace.com and 37th by DyeStat.

The Richland girls are ranked 14th in the Northwest and grabbed the third spot in the coaches 4A poll, returning all five scoring runners from last season’s fourth-place team.

The Tri-Cities Prep boys claimed the top spot in the 2B/1B poll on the strength of their third consecutive state title last fall. Waitsburg-Prescott is ranked seventh. In the 1A ranks, Royal is third in the boys voting.
