Deputy fires at suspects during chase in Yakima County

Tri-City HeraldSeptember 4, 2013

— A Yakima County sheriff’s deputy shot at two men as they tried to hit him with a stolen pickup truck, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspects, whose names were not released, led deputies on a high-speed chase Tuesday along back roads, Sgt. Bill Spawn said. Deputies tried to stop the men after spotting the stolen truck.

The truck stopped on private property on a dead-end road, Spawn said. When a deputy got out, the truck reportedly backed up and tried to hit the deputy.

The deputy fired one shot at the truck, which went off the road and got stuck in a ditch, Spawn said.

Both suspect were arrested and no one was injured. The men were booked into the Yakima County jail.
