Sounders without duo

Staff reportSeptember 2, 2013

Seattle forwards Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson joined the United States national team in Miami on Sunday, while Brad Evans remained with Sounders FC after suffering a calf injury in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Columbus.

All three had been called to the national team for World Cup qualifying matches against Costa Rica and Mexico. Those games will keep Dempsey and Johnson out of both MLS home matches this week, Wednesday against Chivas USA and Saturday against the Chicago Fire, and perhaps the home match next week against Western Conference leader Real Salt Lake.

There was no immediate word on the severity of Evans’ injury, however Sunday afternoon he tweeted: “Back in Seattle. Rehab starts now.”

U.S. Soccer announced that Evans’ place on the roster will be taken by defender Michael Parkhurst.
