Tri-City Americans drop preseason game to Portland

August 31, 2013

Playing a veteran lineup, the Tri-City Americans still came up short in their bid to beat Portland, falling to the Winterhawks 7-4 on Saturday in their second game at the Everett Preseason Classic at Comcast Arena.

Portland jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period before Brian Williams cut the deficit in half at 12:28. The Winterhawks again scored two goals in the second while holding the Americans to a goal by Lucas Nickles.

In the third, the Americans got a short-handed goal from Jessey Astles and a power-play goal from Phil Tot, but the Winterhawks scored three at the other end to skate away with the win.

Tri-City (0-2) got 14 saves from starter Troy Trombley, while rookie Evan Sarthou had 12 saves, giving up all three goals in the third.
