Tauchman steals show as Dust Devils win

August 30, 2013

Mike Tauchman went 2-for-3 with two runs and three stolen bases — including a rare steal of home — to help the Tri-City Dust Devils top the Vancouver Canadians 5-3 in a Northwest League game Friday at Nat Bailey Stadium.

With the Dust Devils clinging to a 3-2 lead, Tauchman — who led the nation in hitting this spring at Bradley University — singled with one out in the top of the eighth inning.

The Colorado Rockies’ 10th-round draft pick then stole second, third and home to put Tri-City up 4-2.

Tauchman came into the game tied for fifth in the NWL in stolen bases with 17. With 20 steals, he now trails league leader Ian Parmley by just two.

Sam Moll (3-1), a third-round pick out of Memphis, picked up the win with 22⁄3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Jonathan Vargas.
