James, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound forward from Kamloops, British Columbia, played last season for the Thompson Blazers Midget AAA of the British Columbia Major Midget League. In 40 games, he scored four goals with eight assists and 69 penalty minutes.

On Tuesday, the Americans signed prospect Austyn Playfair, 16.

A 6-4, 200-pound forward from Scottsdale, Arizona, Playfair played for the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes of the Tier 1 Elite Midget Hockey League last season. In 41 games, Playfair had four goals, seven assists and 16 penalty minutes. Playfair is the younger brother of Spokane Chiefs forward Jackson Playfair.
