Lighting of cable bridge in teal for ovarian cancer planned Thursday

A ceremony to mark the lighting of the cable bridge in teal for ovarian cancer awareness is planned Thursday.

The local support and advocacy group Ovarian Cancer Together, which organized the bridge-lighting project, will begin gathering at Clover Island Inn in Kennewick at 7 p.m. Sunset that night is at 7:40 p.m., and a short memorial service to honor loved ones who have died of the cancer is set for 7:45 p.m.

The public is welcome.

Tinted coverings will be placed over decorative lights on the bridge, creating the teal glow. A $5,000 donation from HAPO Community Credit Union is covering the cost of the project, and other donations -- including $500 from Kadlec Regional Medical Center -- will go toward ovarian cancer research and support, a news release said.

The bridge will be lit in teal through September, which is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Teal is the color associated with ovarian cancer awareness.
