Dust Devils fall to Spokane, slip in NWL standings

By the Tri-City HeraldAugust 23, 2013

The Tri-City Dust Devils had a chance to move up in the Northwest League standings Friday night at Avista Stadium.

The Dust Devils brought in Trent Daniel, their All-Star closer who leads the NWL in saves, to protect a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning against the Spokane Indians.

Instead, it was the Indians who got the better of Daniel and the Dust Devils, tying the game at 5 in the ninth on Gabriel Roa’s RBI single. Marcus Greene doubled off Marc Magliaro to lead off the 10th inning and scored on Joe Jackson’s walk-off single to right with one out.

Roa finished with four RBIs for Spokane.

Sean Dwyer had an unforgettable night for Tri-City, going 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored — including the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth — and an RBI.

Magliaro (2-2) took the loss for the Dust Devils while John Straka (2-1) got the win for the Indians.
