One arrested after Sunnyside man dies from gunshot wound

August 4, 2013

— A Sunnyside man died after being shot Sunday.

Roberto Licea, 29, was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital around 9:10 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

One of the two people who drove Licea to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, was arrested in connection with the shooting, according to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.

The name of the suspect, a 31-year-old Hispanic male from Outlook, was not released. He was booked at the Yakima County jail.

He and the other individual told investigators that they were driving near Sunnyside and Outlook when they saw a white car with gang members in it, according to officials. They told investigators that someone in that car fired at Licea.

But officials said there were inconsistencies in their story.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, according to officials.
