Letter: Niece's visit a success thank to conscientious road crew

August 1, 2013

Above and beyond

I want to thank the crew members who are working on Stevens Drive in Richland. They have been very hardworking and helpful. I'm especially grateful for their recent "beyond the call of duty."

My niece, who I haven't seen in more than 10 years, was coming to visit as part of her vacation. The workers have been busy getting our yards ready to pour cement for our new sidewalk. I am on a walker and limited in my activities, so I am not able to navigate the torn up driveway, etc. We wanted to show my niece around, take her to church with us and out to dinner, but I was not going to be able to entertain her as I would have liked.

The construction crew learned of this and before leaving for the day on Friday, on their own time, built a bridge to get into our driveway by placing a large plywood over the area and anchoring it underneath with pieces of concrete. This made it possible for us to get in and out of our driveway for the weekend.

Thank you so very much!
