300 Area cleanup plan draws questions

Tri-City HeraldJuly 30, 2013

Many questions were asked Tuesday evening in Richland about a proposed final plan for the Hanford 300 Area cleanup.

However, only two people made brief comments on the proposal at the meeting and other submitted written comments.

The Department of Energy and its regulators are preparing to make final environmental cleanup decisions required by the Superfund law for Hanford land near the Columbia River.

They are preparing the final plan for the area just north of Richland now and then will consider five more plans for areas where plutonium-production reactors once operated along the Columbia River.

Comments on the 300 Area proposed plan may be called in to 800-321-2008 until Sept. 16. More information is available at www.hanford.gov by clicking on any date on the events calendar through Aug. 15.
