S-K pitchers shut down Dust Devils

July 29, 2013

Four Salem-Keizer pitchers scattered four hits en route to edging the Tri-City Dust Devils 3-2 on Monday night in Keizer, Ore.

Volcanoes pitchers Pat Young, Cameron McVey, Steve Neff and Raymundo Montero combined on the four-hitter.

McVey took the win to go to 1-2, while Montero picked up his eighth save.

The loss overshadowed a strong performance by Tri-City starter Ryan Warner, who scatterd five hits over six innings. He dropped to 2-2. Jonathan Vargas pitched the final two innings of shutout relief.

Tri-City drew first blood when Julian Yan hit a two-run home run in the second, scoring him and Alec Mehrten, who reached on an error.

But the Volcanoes tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the second when Ryan Tuntland hit a two-run home run to left field.

The Volcanoes scored the go-ahead run in the sixth when Brian Ragira scored from third on a double play.

The teams meet again for the fifth and final game of the series at 6:35 p.m. The series is even at 2-2.
