Dust Devils score late to top Volcanoes

For a second consecutive night, the Tri-City Dust Devils used a late run to top Salem-Keizer 5-4 on Sunday in Northwest League action.

After scoring in the ninth Saturday to win, the Dust Devils scored a single run in the eighth to take home this victory.

Patrick Valaika drew a leadoff walk and went to second on an Alec Mehrten sacrifice bunt. After Marcos Derkes struck out, Wilson Soriano hit a grounder to second that ate up Ryan Jones, allowing Valaika to score.

Valaika finished 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Chris O’Dowd was 2-for-4 with two runs. Cesar Galvez finished 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored and Michael Tauchman added a 2-for-4 day with an RBI.

Troy Neiman (1-0) earned the victory in relief of Johendi Jiminian. Neiman allowed two runs on three hitis in his two innings of work. Marc Magliaro and Jerad McCrummen pitched two shutout innings to close the victory.
