Tri-Cities may catch smoke from wildfires

July 25, 2013

— The smell of smoke may hang in the air at times Thursday night in the Tri-Cities and horizons may be hazy Friday as smoke from wildfires in Oregon and near Goldendale drifts toward the Tri-Cities.

If the wind picks up this weekend, the fires could grow, sending more smoke this way, according to the National Weather Service.

There also is a risk of wildfires in the Mid-Columbia.

The weather service has issued a red flag fire warning from noon Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday because of light breezes and relative humidity as low as 8 percent in the Tri-City area.

Hot temperatures will continue Friday in the Tri-Cities with a high of about 98 forecast.

The weather will cool through the weekend with a high of about 93 degrees Saturday and 90 Sunday under sunny skies.
