Letter: Mutual support from multiple fire disricts averts disaster in Franklin County

July 25, 2013

The residents and farmers along Columbia River Road and West Fir Road in Franklin County would like to thank all the fire districts and volunteers who participated in putting out the fires on July 9, 10 and 12 in our neighborhood.

This includes the following fire districts: Franklin 1, 3, 4 and 5; cities of Pasco, Kennewick and Richland; Benton 1, 2 and 4 and Walla Walla 5.

The mutual support of these districts and their rapid response saved at least eight houses that were in immediate danger and several others that could have been lost if the fires had continued. We would also like to thank our neighbors who responded immediately with shovels and hoses and with a bulldozer and backhoes to cut firebreaks.
