Dust Devils hand Everett 3-1 loss

July 24, 2013

The Tri-City Dust Devils defeated the Everett AquaSox 3-1 in front of 2,265 fans at Everett Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night. The loss snapped Everett's five-game winning streak against the Dust Devils dating to June 19.

The game was dominated by pitching and defense until the Dust Devils struck first in the fifth inning, and they did so quickly.

On Jake Zokan's first pitch of the inning, Patrick Valainka launched a bomb of a solo shot out to left field. Tri-City threatened to score more when they loaded the bases with two outs, but Zokan closed his night in style by striking out Chris O'Dowd on a breaking ball in the dirt.

Tied at 1-1, the Dust Devils pushed the winning runs across against Everett closer Aaron Brooks in the top of the ninth.

Shane Broyles (3-0) pitched two innings for the win.
