Angels Gold 18U splits national softball games

USA Nationals in Reno: The Washington Angels Gold 18U team split their opening games, beating Illinois Chill 8-7 but losing to California Fury 12-1.

The Angels scored four runs in their final at-bat to cool off the Chill. After a hit and walk to lead off the inning, Emily Benson hit a one-out single through the left side to score Whitney Weber, and Jazmynn Jesse doubled to left to score Kaylee Ree. Carlie Richards followed with a sacrifice fly to score Benson, and Cheyenne Fletcher single to score Jesse and end the game.

Nicolette Nesbitt picked up the win with two innings of relief.

There was no coming back from an early deficit against the Fury, which jumped out to an 10-run lead after three innings. The Tri-City team was limited to five hits in the contest.

The Angels open double-elimination play today.
