Dust Devils open Spokane series with win

July 15, 2013

Kyle Von Tungeln and Chris O’Dowd hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth inning, and Sam Moll and four relievers combined to shut down Spokane in the Tri-City Dust Devils’ 4-1 Northwest League win over the Indians at Avista Stadium on Monday.

The three-run fifth was all the support the Dust Devils pitchers needed in the first game of a three-game series in Spokane.

The win pulled Tri-City (15-16) within a game of .500.

Moll threw four innings of four-hit ball, allowing one run.

Shawn Stuart (3-1) came on in the fifth for two clean innings before Marc Magliaro, Jerad McCrummen and Eric Nedeljkovic each threw a scoreless frame.

Nedeljkovic got the save, his first, and the bullpen allowed just one hit over five innings.

The series continues with a game in Spokane at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The two teams play again Wednesday, before the Dust Devils return home Thursday against Salem-Keizer.
