Family of slain Richland infant schedules car wash for funeral costs

Tri-City HeraldJuly 11, 2013

— The family of a 9-month-old Richland girl who died last month is putting on a car wash this weekend to help pay for the infant’s funeral.

The car wash is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at O’Reilly Auto Parts on Jadwin Avenue in Richland. It starts both days at 9:30 a.m. and will run until cars stop coming.

The family is hoping to raise enough money to put Serenity Reedy to rest. The infant’s mother, Jennifer Reedy, found her lifeless in her crib on June 7.

Serenity died from “abusive head trauma,” court documents said. Jose Luis Aguilar is charged with second-degree murder and rape of a child in connection with her death.

Serenity’s grandmother said the family can’t start to take the initial steps towards moving on until Serenity is laid to rest.

“It’s really hard to continue to go through grief over and over when you can’t finish it,” Kathy Inglis said.

Friends and family will help wash cars and collect donations throughout the weekend.

Einan’s Funeral Home in Richland has already donated a casket and a burial plot, Inglis said.

Donations can also be made to a fund in Serenity’s name at all Bank of the West branches.
