Richland National exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth inning, then hung on in the bottom to defeat Yakima National 10-8 in the District 12 tournament for 11-year-olds at Richland National on Monday.

With the score tied 5-5 going into the sixth, big hits by Carson Smith, Landon Amato and Kirby Robertson — as well as a crucial 3-run home run by Conner Budzeck, who went 4 for 4 on the night — were key.

Richland got strong pitching from starter Alex Bennett and relievers Jack Cooper, Broc Nelson, and Budzeck.

Richland advances to play Pasco on Wednesday night.

Beetles 10-5, Flames 8-7: Jon Miles went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs to lift Hanford to a 7-5 win over hsot Yakima, salvaging a nonleague Junior Legion doubleheader split Sunday.

Cody McKee struck out six batters over six innings before Connor Sutey came in to pick up the save for the Flames (25-11) in Game 2.

Jason Mains led Yakima’s offense, going 4-for-7 with a home run and four RBIs on the day.
