Pitching leads Kennewick Bandits over Apple Valley

Clayten Ayres and Colton Plew pitched complete-game victories to lead the Kennewick Bandits to a 8-4, 10-0 Central Washington League Senior American Legion sweep of visiting Apple Valley on Sunday at Roy Johnson Field.

The Bandits swept the Packers on Saturday night in Wenatchee.

Duster Bowl: The Hermiston Spuds waited until the championship game to bring out the big bats, scoring 11 runs on nine hits in an 11-2 win over the Kennewick Pepsi Cola Dusters at LaPierre Field in Kennewick.

Shawn Smith hit two doubles for the Spuds and drove in three runs. Justin Larsen led the Pepsi Cola Dusters with two hits, including a double. It was the fourth hit on the day for Larsen, who also went 2-for-5 in an 8-5 semifinal win over the Kennewick Phantoms.

Hermiston topped the Eastlake Wolves 3-2 in the other semifinal.

BABE RUTH 15: Prosser defeated Kennewick 8-5 late Saturday night to win the district tournament title at Roy Johnson Field.

With the victory, Prosser advances to the Southern Washington State Tournament, set for Pasco on July 15, as the district 2 No. 1 seed. Kennewick will play as the district’s No. 2 seed, while Pasco will play as tournament host.

BABE RUTH 13: Kennewick Blue edged Pasco 15-14 on Saturday at Roy Johnson Field for a Southern Washington State Tournament berth.

Kennewick Blue will joins top-seeded Kennewick Silver at the state tournament in Longview beginning July 17.
