July 4, 2013

Ten Mid-Columbians will compete starting this Saturday in the Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s Men’s Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes.

Walla Walla’s Ryan Baumgart and Mason Palmer; Kennewick’s Daniel Cruzen, Riley Hayfield and Nick Mandell; Richland’s Josh Harvey, Scott Kim, Jeff Marcum, Tanner Martin and Minwoo Park are entered in the field.

The field will play 36 holes of stroke play to determine who the top 64 will be to enter match play. The tournament runs through next Thursday.

Tri-City Open field set: A field of 69 golfers is set for the inaugural Golf Universe Tri-City Open that is scheduled to be played Saturday and Sunday at Canyon Lakes Golf Course.

Tournament organizers were looking to bring back an offshoot of the Tri-Cities Amateur, but they also included professionals.

There are two divisions of amateurs.

The field will tee off at 1 p.m. Saturday with a shotgun start. On Sunday, the leaders will be paired up for the final round.

The professionals are guaranteed $5,000 for first place, while winners of the amateur gross and net are guaranteed a $750 payout.
