Update: Two arrested in connection with shooting Richland teen

Tri-City HeraldJuly 4, 2013

— Two Richland teens have been arrested in connection with allegedly murdering a 17-year-old Richland boy early Thursday morning.

Joshua J. Snapp was found dead in the desert near Horn Rapids Off Road Vehicle Park after a gas station clerk in Benton City called 911.

Joshua H. Hunt, 19, and John C. Young, 18, apparently lured Snapp to Beardsley Road off of Highway 240, claiming they would smoke marijuana, according to Richland police.

Instead, the two confronted Snapp, accusing him of being a “snitch,” said Capt. Mike Cobb of the Richland Police Department. They also brought up money that the victim apparently owed Hunt.

The two teens are suspected of then shooting Snapp in the chest and the head, according to Richland police.

A clerk at the Benton City Conoco station called 911 at about 7:45 a.m. Thursday after a man came in and told the clerk the person he was with had shot and killed someone, Cobb said.

Benton County Sheriff’s deputies responded the gas station and took Young and Hunt into custody, he said.

Both the sheriff’s office and Richland police responded to Beardsley Road off of Highway 240, where the body of the victim was found, with gunshot wounds, Cobb said.

The body was found just inside Richland city limits, by a couple hundred yards, Cobb said.

Beardsley Road was blocked off with yellow crime scene tape, with several cones in the distance marking evidence.
