Heat sickens some in the Mid-Columbia

Tri-City clinics and emergency rooms have seen a handful of people with symptoms of heat exhaustion -- high fever, nausea, vomiting -- in recent days.

Kennewick General Hospital's urgent care and walk-in care clinics have treated about a dozen people with those symptoms and some serious sun burns, said Lisa Teske, director of marketing and business development.

Emergency room staff at Lourdes Medical Center also has seen a half dozen cases of heat exhaustion this week, said Melanie Johnston, Lourdes spokeswoman.

Officials at Kadlec Regional Medical Center could not be reached Wednesday.
