Letter: State agent justified in killing bear to protect humans

July 2, 2013

I want to thank the fish and wildlife agent who recently dispatched the black bear. The misinformed people who wanted it tranquilized would be the first ones outraged if it injured someone.

It takes a period of time before a tranquilizer takes effect. During that time a scared black bear can do a lot of damage. No matter how much these uneducated people want it, human life is not the same as an animal's. The agent was in a no win situation and made a good decision. It was a wild black bear, not Yogi Bear. A trophy kill? Hardly, just some common sense!
