The son of Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd, the Dartmouth College product was already well acquainted with the world of professional baseball even before he was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 23rd round of last year’s MLB draft. A strong defensive catcher, O’Dowd was promoted quickly up the Padres’ chain last season, starting at Eugene before making Class A stops at Fort Wayne (Ind.) and Lake Elsinore (Calif.). Signed by the Rockies as a free agent before the 2013 season, he started the year at Asheville (N.C.), hitting .306 in 10 games. Returned to PK Park in Eugene earlier this year and hit a key two-run single that highlighted Tri-City’s 7-5 win over the Emeralds on June 24.
